GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Perkin Elmer Model AS 90 Autosampler is a computer - controlled, multipurpose sampling system for Flame and Flow Injection Atomic Absorption, ICP - AES, ICP - MS and other spectrometric analysis techniques. The AS 90 Autosampler automates instrument calibration, sample introduction and element program change in the spectrometer via software commands, extending the spectrometer's capabilities to those of a fully automated analytical work Station.

The complete AS 90 Autosampler consists of a stand - alone sampler table including the sampling arm with stepper motor drives, sample probe with transport capillary, sample tray and interfacing electronics.

Precise stepper motors move the AS 90's sampling arm to its programmed X - Y - Z coordinates quickly and accurately. Random access programming gives unlimited flexibility in locating different Samples and references. The AS 90 sampling arm moves rapidly from position to position, minimizing time lost between sample analyses and reducing overall analysis times.

The sample probe and sample capillary of the AS 90 are male of corrosion - resistant PTFE.

The AS 90 Autosampler is powered either from the FIAS 200 Flow Injection System, or from the Model 2100 AA Spectrometer, or from the AS 90 Controller. The AS 90 is progammed and operated from the Spectrometer's keyboard and video screen. Operation of the autosampler is therefore dependent an the spectrometer's operating software.

The AS 90 offers exceptional sampling capacity. Its different, easily removable sample trays provide the flexibility of using a variety of differently sized Sample vessels. Three sample trays are available: The optional tray (A) with 144 locations for 6 mL sample vessels; the standard tray (B) (provided with the AS 90) with 98 locations for 15 mL sample vessels; and the optional tray (C) with 36 locations for 50 mL sample vessels. In addition each sample tray has 8 locations for 50 mL reference vessels and one location for a 250 mL blank container. Use large volume vessels for long term, automatic operation requiring increased solution volumes. Use smaller vessels if you wish to analyze increased numbers of samples when only small sample volumes are required, e.g. with Flow Injection Atomic Spectrometry.
