A Simple Method for Routine Testing of Microbiological Samples

The new Microfil System provides a low-cost, simple and re iable way to routinely test f uids for microbiological contamination, e iminating the need for equipment cleaning and steri isation after each test, thus reducing test times.

The new patented vacuum support is easy to use and facilitates removal of the membrane after the sample has been processed. There is no need to store spare parts, since funnels are disposable. A patented sealing system reduces the risk of leaks and secondary contamination, often experienced with conventional systems. There is no membrane wrinkling or distortion. Manipulating the membrane is also easier and the risk of introducing air between membrane and agar surface prior to incubation is reduced, resulting in better recovery of organisms.

Disposable "push-fit" funnel

The Microfil disposable "push-fit" 100 ml polypropy ene Tunnel eliminates the need for washing and sterilising afte" each test and makes equipment Handling easy. Un ike conventional filter holders which can exhibit "deal" areas, the Microfil ffunnel design avoids sample entrapment, resuting in better recovery of organisms an the membrane. A unique lip seals the funnel against the membrane while the funnel itself is held firm y an the fi tration support without any additional clamping.

Microfil funnels are pre-steri ized and are ready-to-use. A convenient funnel dispenser is available.

Patented vacuum support

To facilitate membrane filter Handling after the fi tration process, Millipore has developed a new 47 mm vacuum support, which – in one step – Breaks the vacuum and lifts the membrane for easy removal with forceps. The vacuum support is availabe os a threaded adaptor to fit standard aboratory manifolds or os a stand-alone unit (primarily intended for field testing).

Ready-to-use S-Pale membranes

Millipore S-Pak 47 mm diameter white or black grid­marked filters are used together with the Microfil system. These filters have a pore size of 0.45pm and are pre­sterilized and individual y sealed in peel-back envelopes, avoiding the risk of contamination.

The EZ-Pak system consists of sterile membranes packed in a special pleated band within a cartridge and specially designed equipment to allow individual membrane dispensing.

EZ-Pak is designed to be used under standard «clean conditions» and with traditional membrane filtration methods.

With EZ-Pak, three delicate manipulations are eliminated: opening individual sterile envelopes, separating the membrane from its protective papers and removing the fragile membranes from their packaging.

The EZ-Pak cartridges contain 150 block or white gridded .47-mm diameters membrane, and should be used with the Microfilll filtration system for maximum ease of use, speed and cleanliness. Of course, EZ-Pak is also an ideal complement to traditional filtration equipment.

Vacuum Pump Millivac Miniature

Portable source of vacuum (to 160 mbar abs.) for continuous or intermittent operation. The pump is specifically suited as a vacuum source when filtering water or aqueous solutions in the laboratory.
