Sample vials of either 10 or 20 mL capacity may be                 With the HP 19395A headspace sampler all setpoints can be used in the headspace sampler. The carousel is                             stored in a method, including vial temperatures the number of

immersed in a silicone oil bath operating from                          injections per vial, pressurization, venting, sampling time, and

ambient + 15° to 150°C.                                                             conditioning times.

Front and TopViews

Consisting of two discrete units standing side-by-side, the front and top views of the HP 19395A show the following features:

Programmer Unit:                   Contains keyboard and display components which contain electronics for controlling the sampler unit - - numeric and LED displays, general purpose keys, parameter keys, autotest module.

Sampler Unit:                          Contains components - - flow controllers, pressure regulators, pressure gauges, and valves controlling pneumatic power and sampler gas flows. It also contains the thermostated bath, sample carousel, and mechanics for sampling from the sealed vials.

Environmental Considerations

The HP 19395A will operate within the temperature range 10 C to 40 C, or under the relative humidity range of 5 to 95%; however, an environment comfortable for human habitation (reasonably. constant temperature and humidity conditions) is recommended for optimum performance and instrument longevity.

Exposure to corrosive substances (whether gas, liquid, or solid) may affect materials used in HP 19395A and should be avoided.

Location

For the HP 19395A alone, a conventional laboratory bench having an unobstructed surface about

39 cm (16 inches) deep by 56 cm (22 inches) wide and capable of supporting at least 30 kg (66 lhs), is adequate.

The HP 19395A is about 41 cm (16 inches) high - - the area above site selected should be free of shelves or other overhanging obstructions. Such obstructjons limit access to the top of the instrument, and may also prevent adequate cooling.

If other devices (chromatograph recorder, integrator, etc.) are to be placed on the same bench, area and load bearing requirements must be proportionately greater.

Power Considerations

Line Voltage . The HP 19395A Headspace Sampler is configured to operate from one of the following line voltage supplies:

*      115 VAC single phase (+10%, -10%), 50 to 60 HZ, 400 VA max.

*      220 VAC single phase (+10%, -10%), 50 to 60 HZ, 400 VA max.

      Operating voltage is configured according to the original power option ordered

(115V for no option, 220V for option 002).
GENERAL DESCRIPTION

INTRODUCTION

The HP 19395A Headspace Sampler provides automatic analysis of up to 24 samples within the temperature range (ambient +15 C) to 150 C.

Samples are placed in glass vials of either 10 or 20 ml capacity (nominal) which are sealed using a septum and crimped metal cap. The vials typically have a 13mm opening, which is the size to which rigid samples must be cut.

The vials are therinostated in a carousel mounted in a silicon oil. bath.

SUMMARY OF FEATURES

*     The sampler can operate independently of the gas chromatograph when connected to a separate gas source.

*     A remote-start cable permits coordination hetween the CC and the Headspace Sampler. When in the “Remote“ mode, the GC will control the sampler.

*     A binary coded decimal (BCD) cable (optional) transfers the vial number to the gas chromatograph or to the integrator, for printing on a report.

*     A complete set of operating set points for a headspace method may be stored as a “method“; four methods can be stored, and will be protected for several hours in the event of   power failure.

*     The methods can be programmed to analyze samples in the carousel under different conditions.

*     Multiple injections from the same vial may be made by using the standard or “multiple headspace extraction“ technique.

*     Pressurization of the vial is optional, and is determined by the operator when programming the method.

*     A 1 ml loop is supplied, however a 3 ml sample loop is available to increase the volume of sample injected.

*     The HP 19395A may be controlled by external devices:

a)    Two contact closures or another method to pull a high line low are required - - one to start an injection, and the other to rotate the carousel one position.

b)    Using the optional RS-232-C capability, all set points and the injection sequence can be controlled by an external computer.
