GENERAL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

SYSTEM OPERATION

The Forte Model 590 Series Moisture Measuring System is designed for cones or skeins of yarn and other products. It features moisture measuring and weighing operations. The 590 Series performs instantaneous measurements and compiles complete production records. Data items are Output to a VDT, a printer, and a plant computer port. Data items to each output device can be selected by the operator.

The System has two modes of Operation called Processing Mode and Command Mode which are also referred to as ON-LINE and OFF-LINE respectively. The system starts in the ON-LINE Mode when the power is turned on. In this mode, a product moisture test can be performed and the results will be output to the selected devices. To change production parameters, system parameters, and output parameters, the system must be put into Command Mode.

OPERATING PROCEDURES

The Forte Systems use a variable AC input voltage DC power supply. When power is applied to the supply it determines the AC input voltage. This results in a delay of several seconds between turning on the power with the key switch and having the power button light turn on and the processing mode display appears on the VDT.

The system starts up in Processing Mode (ON-LINE). The system can be toggled between Processing Mode and Command Mode (OFF-LINE) by pressing the ":" key. The system password must be entered to change to Command Mode. In Command Mode a list of the commands is displayed in the upper portion of the screen (see VDT Display 2).

Product, Setup, and System parameters can only be entered from the Command Mode. These parameters should be entered before any processing takes place. The entered data is stored in nonvolatile memory so that it is not lost if power is removed from the system. Lot summary totals are lost if power is removed.

When the system is put ON-LINE, the screen will be divided into two horizontal sections. The current processing Type will be displayed in large numerals on the left in the top section of the screen. The last moisture value will be displayed in large numerals on the right in the top section of the screen (see VDT Display 1). The processing Type defaults to one (01) when the system is powered up. A heading will be shown in the bottom section of the screen. Data will be displayed under the heading as it is generated. Up to 15 lines of data are displayed under the headings. Each new line of data is added at the bottom as the screen scrolls upward. It is not possible to scroll downward to view previously displayed data.
