ColorQuest® XE Spectrophotometer

The ColorQuest XE is a high performance spectrophotometer that can be used in production and in the laboratory for inspecting raw materials, evaluating finished product or developing methods for color analysis. You can measure opaque, transparent and translucent solids and liquids for properties such as reflected color, opacity, brightness, strength, transmitted color, APHA and haze. lt is ideal for use in a variety of industries including textile, plastic, chemical, coating, food, building materials and paper.

With ColorQuest XE's inter-instrument agreement, you can be confident that differences between measurements are due to product color changes, not instrument variability. Materials on the borderline of accepted tolerances will not be unnecessarily rejected and you will confidently ship more product. ColorQuest XE is ideal for use in quality control and color formulation applications.

Obtain accurate, precise measurements.

The ColorQuest XE uses d/8°(sphere) geometry, which conforms to ASTM, ISO, CIE, DIN and JIS standards for reflection measurements. The large integrating sphere is coated with Spectraflect TM which has superior optical characteristics and greater durability than traditional BaSO 4 coating. Transmission measurements are male using de geometry. A single xenon lamp is flashed "softly" to avoid triplet absorption yet provides sufficient energy to give excellent measurement precision, even on Bark and highly saturated samples. The short duration flash will not heat your sample and has minimal photochromic effect. Having extended life, the xenon lamp will last at least eight years in typical use and is easily replaced by the user.

The reflectance standard supplied with ColorQuest XE has been calibrated using reference standards traceable to the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), and using methods outlined by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

To ensure measurement repeatability and stability, ColorQuest XE uses true double-beam optics that monitor light reflected from the sphere and spectrally compensates for any variation. To ensure colormetric measurement accuracy and inter-instrument agreement, each system is tested with calibrated color tiles traceable to the NPL.

Easily measure samples of all types and sizes.

The geometry of the ColorQuest XE allows you to perform color measurement of transparent, translucent and opaque samples. Solid samples are easily positioned and supported at the reflectance port with the ergonomically designed sample clamp. For measurement of powders, granules and opaque liquids the Reflectance Sample Shelf accessory would be used to position a sample cell.

The large transmission compartment is open an three sides to make sample measurement easy. The compartment can accommodate samples ranging from thin films and glass to 80mm transmission cells. Diffuse transmittance, regular (direct) transmittance, and haze can be measured.

Other measurement functions include:

• Automated gloss control - Specular Included/ Excluded reflectance measurements, to compare glossy and non-glossy surfaces, are made quickly and automatically. The Specular port cover position is controlled by the system computer, which also stores standardization modes for quick and automatic recall when multiple mode measurements are made.

• Large area and optional small area

remove the 25.4-mm LAV aperture and insert the 6.3mm SAV aperture. When switching modes, the ColorQuest XE automatically changes its lens system and confirms that the proper port aperture is in place. An optional sample viewing screen assures the position of samples at the reflectance port.

• Accurate fluorescent measurement - The UV Control option permits accurate measurement of fluorescent and optically brightened samples. UV content of light striking a sample is automatically adjusted. This provides accuracy, stability and reading agreement between multiple instruments for whiteness and brightness measurements.

Controlling the UV energy is superior to "numerical calculation" systems that assume fluorescent linearity. The Fluorescent Standard available from HunterLab is traceable to the Hohensteiner Institute.

Get high reliability with minimum maintenance

The ColorQuest XE is engineered to be reliable in industrial environments. The Spectraflect coated sphere doesn't yellow like conventional BaSO 4 and will remain highly reflective for years. The single source lamp has extended life - more than one million flashes and can be replace by the user in minutes. The ColorQuest XE uses many components designed for an-line instruments and inherits the same ruggedness and reliability.

ColorQuest XE diffuse/8° Optical Sensor includes the following features:

Ø       Spectrophotometer for Reflectance/ Transmittance Color Measurements : Provides visible wavelength data from 400-nm to 700-nm, uses a long-life xenon lamp to provide illumination closely matching D65.

Ø       Dual-beam Optics: Provides the greatest level of accuracy, repeatability, and long-term performance.

Ø       Dual-channel polychromator for sample and monitor information. Holographic grating with 40 element detection array provides spectral data at 10nm intervals.
