The SYNAPT G2 HDMS system can operate in two modes: a) TOF mode and b) Mobility TOF mode. The TOF mass resolution in the positive ion is 10,000 FWHM in sensitivity mode, 20,000 FWHM in resolution mode, and 40,000 FWHM in high-resolution mode. The TOF mass resolution in negative ion is 10,000 FWHM in sensitivity mode, 20,000 FWHM in resolution mode, and 40,000 FWHM in high-resolution mode. The sensitivity of the positive ion MS is 1700 ions per second in sensitivity mode, 850 ions per second in resolution mode and 1000 ions per second in EDC. The sensitivity of the negative ion MS is 1800 ions per second in sensitivity mode and 900 ions per second in resolution mode. The sensitivity of the positive ion MS/MS is 130 ions per second in sensitivity mode and 65 ions per second in resolution mode. The sensitivity of negative ion MS/MS is 130 ions per second in sensitivity mode and 65 ions per second in resolution mode. The mass calibration accuracy of the instrument in high resolution mode, using internal closing masses, is designed such that the RMS error between the measured and the accepted masses of peaks that are sufficiently intense and have no interference from other masses is over the range of 150 to 900 m/z is less than 1 ppm. The mass measurement accuracy of the instrument in high resolution mode becomes better than 1 ppm RMS. The TOF mass range is between 20 and 100,000 m/z in resolution mode and between 20 and 32,000 m/z in high-resolution mode. Spectra can be acquired at a rate of 20 scans per second, except for pDRE mode where the maximum rate is 10 scans per second. The dynamic range in high-resolution mode, defined as the range of peak intensities that provide better than 3 ppm accurate mass RMS, is at least four orders of magnitude. The High Mass Precursor selection is only relevant for instruments with 8000 m/z and 32,000 m/z quadrupoles. The low energy MS/MS spectrum of m/z 5569.1 from a solution of 2 ?g/?L sodium iodide in 50/50 isopropanol/water will only contain m/z 5569.1 and its fragments. The intensity of the largest fragment ion will be less than 5% of the intensity of the precursor ion. MS/MS data is acquired over the mass range of 100 - 8000 m/z with a collision energy of 10 eV.
