The QIAGEN® BioRobot"" 9604 is a molecular biology workstation for the automated isolation of nucleic acids from clinical and research samples. Nucleic acids purified on the BioRobot 9604 are ready for use in a wide range of demanding and sensitive downstream applications performed in highthroughput laboratories, including molecular diagnostic, research, pharmaceutical, and plasma-fractionation facilities.
The BioRobot 9604 is specifically developed for efficient high-throughput preparation of nucleic acids from a wide variety of sources. The prepared material is suitable for use in the most demanding and sensitive downstream biomolecular nucleic acid analysis.

The BioRobot 9604 Integrated Modular Design Concept
The BioRobot 9604 purification system uses integrated components for dependable results.
- The robotic arm and specially designed tip-adapters and tips provide precise reagent dispensing and aspiration.
- The dilutor system(s) regulates the flow of system liquid for precise liquid dispensing.
- The High-Speed Pipetting System accurately dispenses larger quantities of liquids.
- The dedicated wash station, and the Tip-Change System ensures zero-contamination sampling and liquid transfer.
- The worktable holds all buffers and racks in exactly the right position.
- The vacuum manifold with integrated pressure control guarantees rapid and thorough filtration as an efficient separation step.
- The Sample Identification System identifies the samples from their bar-code to track and document their progress through the entire protocol.
- The Labware Identification System identifies labware (e.g. square-well blocks) to assist in sample tracking and documentation.
- The QlAsoft 3.0 Operating System controls all procedures for the BioRobot 9604. The system is a user-friendly software which operates on the high-quality computer supplied.

QIAsoft 3.0 Operating System
QIAsoft 3.0 software is the operating software for the BioRobot 9604. lt was written and developed for use with the QIAGEN BioRobot Systems.
QIAsoft 3.0 software uses the Microsoft Windows © 95 Operating System. We recommend you should have some previous experience in using Windows 95 applications. There is also a QIAsoft 3.0 Operating System Developer Package available which expands the capabilities of your BioRobot 9604. This package allows you to create your own protocols and to configure the worktable to your own requirements.
General Information
The QIAsoft 3.0 Operating System controls microprocessors, CPUs, circuit boards, encoded DC motors, and stepper motors to ensure pinpoint accuracy and reliability.
An example of the precision of this integrated technology is seen when the microprocessor records the probe and the robotic arm's exact position at all times. This allows protocols to continue from precisely the same place after an interruption.
The QIAsoft 3.0 software opens in the Execute environment. The Execute environment contains the QIAGEN preprogrammed protocols.
Interacting with Windows 95
QIAsoft 3.0 software uses the Windows 95 operating system.
Opening Protocols
The QIAsoft 3.0 software opens in the Execute environment at the protocol shown in the toolbar protocol field.
For further protocols, select one from the drop down list in the protocol field.
QIAGEN is continually developing new protocols for the BioRobot 9604 and these will be mode available as soon as they are ready.
