The Nicolet 500 Series FT-IR spectrometers offer excellent performance and value, as well as configuration versatility to meet a wide variety of experiments. The 500 Series features a choice of two optical benches, an extensive range of accessories, and the Nicolet 680 Spectroscopy workstation computer. The Nicolet 680 is optimized for complete spectrometer control, real-time data acquisition, and fast Fourier transform processing. The system is controlled by the Advantage II software package, which includes:
Menu-mode operation
Command-line program execution
Control through macro routines
A newly designed interferometer, lownoise electronics, and high-performance options make the Nicolet 500 Series the most sensitive and versatile in its class.
System Features
Choice of two optical configurations: 510 optical bench with 0.8 cm" resolution or 520 optical bench with 0.4 cm" resolution
Wide range of accessories, including auxiliary experiment modules and infrared microscopes
Easy-to-use Advantage II software
The powerful Nicolet 680 workstation
GC-IR, TGA-IR, SFC-IR, and IR-Microscope upgradability
Frictionless interferometer design for
exceptional reliability and sensitivity
Superior applications and Service support
to best meet your individual needs
Optical Bench
The 500 Series optical benches are available with two resolutions. For the entire 7400 to 350 cm" mid-infrared range, the 510 spectrometer features 0.8 cm" resolution and the 520 system delivers 0.4 cm" resolution.
With the optional CsI beamsplitter, spectral range coverage is extended to 225 cm-'. At the heart of the 510 system is the dependable, flex-pivot Michelson interferometer. The 520 system incorporates an air bearing Michelson interferometer for enhanced resolution and capabilities. Both interferometers have a frictionless design for maximum sensitivity and reliability. Co-axial laser referencing, standard on both models, provides absolute wavenumber accuracy and allows the user to know precisely where the infrared beam is positioned on the sample.
The choice of a DTGS or high sensitivity LN2-cooled MCT detector allows the system to be used in routine as well as research spectroscopy tasks. Scanning velocity is computer-optimized for the type of
detector used.
High-efficiency collection optics provide excellent signal-to-noise performance. The detector optics are combined with the DTGS or MCT detector onto a single prealigned module.
The 500 Series sample compartment is large, purgeable, and easily accessible. Accessories can be installed on precisionmounted, interchangeable sample baseplates for rapid change without the need for tedious realignment.
Advantage II Software
The 500 Series is controlled by the powerful and versatile Advantage II FT-IR applications software package. Three modes of operation Ä.re available, p oviding a working environment for users with widely differing applications and levels of expertise.
New or occasional users will appreciate the speed and ease-of-use of menu mode operation. In this mode, analysis is as simple as using cursor keys to select the displayed command of choice. The menu mode offers spectral subtraction, baseline correction, library search, quantitative functions, and more.
The powerful Advantage II applications software also features a command line and macro programming operation for utilizing the full problem-solving capabilities of the system. The command line mode offers the user complete control by simply typing three letter commands that are intuitive and easy to remember. In laboratories where complex analyses must be repeated accurately for dozens of samples, the macro mode provides system control in addition to functions such as looping, conditional statements, and text prompting.
All of these combine to make the Advantage II software package a versatile tool in routine and research laboratories.
Data System
The desktop Nicolet 680 workstation is designed for the 500 Series spectrometers. This dedicated workstation offers superior speed because it was specifically developed and optimized for FT-IR spectroscopy.
A 111 Mbyte internal Winchester hard drive is provided, along with a 3.5 inch,
4 Mbyte floppy drive that can read and write 1, 2 or 4 Mbyte microfloppy disks for total compatibility and flexibility. An additional 500 Mbytes of internal storage can be ordered at any time. The internal ASIC processor provides 40 MHz speed for fast and efficient spectral operations. The 500 Series systems are designed with a dual bus architecture incorporating both a SCSI bus and a Nicolet bus for real-time spectral data acquisition, processing, and interactive display graphics.
