The stated transport and packing charges apply to the most favorable route if transport and are to be understood as subject to verification due to unexpected cost increases. By reason of unpredictable events, cargo rates and delivery times can change at any time and therefore have to be adapted to the recent situation. Import formalities and possible customs charges will be borne by the purchaser. Incoterm coding according to Incoterms 2010: For persons who collect the devices themselves: EXW, for dipatch by sea: CFR, by air freight: CPT, other shipments: DAP. Note for international shipments: A proof of preference/EUR1 will not be issued by us. When self-collecting/ordering EXW from countries within or outside the European Union, 16% VAT will be retained as a deposit until we have received the corresponding confirmation of arrival/bill of delivery from the buyer.

The AFS Technology

Introducing the Analyzer Feed System (AFS)

The AFS TM supplies clinical analyzers with the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards, College of American Pathologists (NCCLS/CAP), Type I, reagent water. Performance specifications for final product water, which is low in ionic, organic, microbiological, and particulate contaminants, are listed in Chapter Six.

The AFS uses reverse osmosis (R0) technology to remove a broad spectrum of contaminants from prefiltered feed water and a patented pack design (the AFSPAK TM ) to polish final product water to greater than 10 megohm-centimeters (MΩ-cm) resistivity. A microprocessor monitors water quality through measurements of the conductivity of the feed water and comparing it to the conductivity of the RO permeate to determine the percent rejection of the RO membrane. The system also measures product water resistivity and temperature. The control panel displays these parameters, the current system mode, and active menus.

Numerous system features ensure consistently high water quality.

•            The patented ROPAKTM extends the life of the RO membrane (in the RO cartridge) by combining particle filtration, carbon adsorption, and an anti-scaling compound to prevent fouling, chlorine attack, and scale formation.

•            The RO cartridge is automatically flushed to prevent biofilm build up on the RO membrane surface, further reducing fouling.

•            The optional degasser eliminates most dissolved gases from product water, protecting your analyzer from inconsistent clinical results caused by bubble formation in the analyzer.

•            If there is a gross system leak, it is detected by a sensor in the tray beneath the AFS, causing the water inlet valve to close. The tray is sloped, collecting and funneling any leaks to drain.

•            The MillipakTM-100 final filter, a 0.22 micron (µm) absolute membrane filter, ensures extremely low bacteria levels in the product water.

In addition to providing consistently high water quality, the AFS System is easy to use and maintain.

•            The Compact design of the system allows you to place it on a lab bench, moveable cart, or mount it on the lab wall.

•            The ROPAK and AFSPAK are easily installed and removed. A yellow caution light on the control panel indicates when the packs need to be changed and the display tells you which pack to change.

•            The RO cartridge is easy to sanitize and clean through an access port on the top of the system.

•            A pressurized tank stores intermediate-grade water which is further polished by the AFSPAK when the analyzer demands water. When the analyzer does not require water, the AFS processes water until the storage tank is full, then automatically enters the Tank Full, Standby mode.

•            An optional Point-of-Use Dispenser allows you to dispense water up to 2.1 meters (m) 7 feet (ft) from the system for applications needing Type I water (for example, reagent make up, bench chemistries, etc.).

The Eight AFS

There are Eight AFS described in this manual. The AFS 10 produces 10 liters/hour (L/hr) of final product water. It is used for clinical analyzers that require low volumes of feed watet For analyzers that require more water, Millipore offers the AFS 18, AFS 30 and AFS 60. These systems produce up to 18 L/hr, 30 L/hr and 60 L/hr, respectively. Each system is available for different voltage levels (120 V, 230 V, and 100 V) and with an optional degasser.

Water Flow Through the System

Pretreated tap water flows into the system through the ROPAKTM (1) which protects the RO membrane in the RO cartridge from fouling, chlorine attack, and scale formation. From the ROPAK, the water flows through the RO cartridge (2) for final pretreatment. In the AFS10, the RO-treated water flows to either the pressurized tank (3) for intermediate storage or to the AFSPAK (4) where it is polished to greater than 10 MQ-cm. Product water then flows through either an optional degasser (5) where dissolved gases are removed, or directly through the 0.22 u m final filter (6) where bacteria are removed. Fully purified water flows through the product port (7), and to the clinical analyzer. In the AFS 18D and AFS3OD, water flows through the degasser before it flows through the AFSPAK for polishing.

Technical Information

Performance Specifications

All eight AFS systems described in this manual meet the following NCCLS performance specifications.

Contaminant

Performance Specification

Resistivity (minimum)

≥ 10 Megohm-cm (MΩ-cm)

Bacteria

≤ 10 colony forming units per milliliter (cfu/mL)

maximum bacterial content

Hourly production rate 1

AFS 10:            10 L/hr

AFS 18:            18 L/hr

AFS 30:            30 L/hr

AFS 60:            60 L/hr

Particulates

0.22 micron (µm) filtration

Organics

Silica

≤0.05 milligrams per liter (mg/L) as Si0 2

1. Flow rate depends an the RO feed water pressure, the condition of the RO membranes, and water temperature. Typical instantaneous peak flow is (1.5 L/minute). The hourly production rates shown in the table are achieved when the water temperature is 15°C (Celsius) or 59°F (Fahrenheit) and RO transmembrane pressure is 100 pounds per square inch (psi) or 6.9 bar for the AFS 10 and AFS18 and 150 psi (10.34 bar) for the AFS 30 and AFS 60. A lower water temperature, RO feed pressure, or inadequate RO cartridge maintenance can reduce product flow rate.
