The Leica RM2255 is a motorized rotary microtome. The instrument features a safety helical wheel with a centrally positioned handle and a mechanical handwheel lock. All controls and LEDs are clearly arranged on a separate control panel. The control elements are logically arranged in function groups and are easily recognizable. The sample retraction can be deactivated. In manual mode, the retraction can be adjusted. In motorized mode, the retraction varies with the selected sectioning height. An LED signals when the sample is retracted. The electric coarse feed operates at two speeds. In sectioning mode, the coarse feed buttons have a STEP function. Setting values: from 0.50 µm to 5.0 µm in 0.5 µm increments, from 5.0 to 20.0 µm in 1.0 µm increments, from 20.0 to 60.0 µm in 5.0 µm increments, and from 60.0 to 100.0 µm in 10.0 µm increments. Trim section thickness setting range: 1 to 600 µm. Setting values: from 1.0 to 10.0 µm in 1.0 µm increments, from 10.0 to 20.0 µm in 2.0 µm increments, from 20.0 to 50.0 µm in 5.0 µm increments, from 50.0 to 100.0 µm in 10.0 µm increments, and from 100.0 to 600.0 µm in 50.0 µm increments. Sample feed: 28 mm ±1 mm, driven by a stepper motor. Vertical stroke: 70 mm. Maximum sectioning area without retraction: 65 mm without sample alignment. Maximum sectioning area with retraction: 60 mm. Sample feed in manual cutting mode: 5 to 100 µm in 5 µm increments and can be switched off. Sample feed in motorized cutting mode: dependent on the cutting speed, can also be switched off. Electric coarse feed at 300 µm/s and 900 µm/s. Cutting speed: 0; 0.5 to 420 mm/s ± 10%.
