Die tragbaren GRIMM Arbeitsplatz-Staubmessgeräte erlauben Einzelpartikelzählungen und eine Größenklassifizierung in Echtzeit. Die Probenluft mit unterschiedlich großen Partikeln wird konstant von einer volumenstromgeregelten Pumpe durch einen flachen Lichtstrahl gesaugt, der von einer fokussierten Laserdiode erzeugt wird. Jedes entstandene Streulichtsignal, das diesen Laserstrahl passiert, wird von einer High-Speed-Photodiode in einem 90°-Winkel erfasst, so dass Farbveränderungen der Partikel außer Acht gelassen werden können. Dieser Impuls wird von einem integrierten Impulshöhenanalysator analysiert, in 8, 15 oder 32 verschiedene Größenbereiche klassifiziert und gezählt. Anzahl oder Masse (pro Größenbereich) werden auf einer Datenspeicherkarte gespeichert und in Intervallen von sechs Sekunden (oder einer Minute) auf dem Display angezeigt als:

Einzelpartikelzählung bis hinauf zu sehr hohen Partikelkonzentrationen von 500.000 oder 2.000.000 Partikeln pro Liter ohne Veränderung des Größenbereichs oder Verdünnung. In diesem Modus wird das Gerät nur als Einzelpartikelzähler für Grauräume oder für die industrielle Prozesskontrolle eingesetzt.

Staubmassenverteilung, wobei die Ergebnisse (wie bei einem Impaktor } in 8, 15 oder 15 verschiedene Größenbereichen von 0,001 bis zu 100 mg/m3 ausgegeben werden.

Arbeitsplatz-Messwerte, wobei in Übereinstimmung mit dem oben genannten EN-Standard die einatembaren , thorakalen und alveolengängigen Staubmessfraktionen zwischen 0,001 und 100 mg/m3 simultan angezeigt werden.

Die Gerätedaten (Motorstrom, Batterieladung usw.) werden ebenfalls in den internen Datenspeicher übertragen und sind über die entnehmbare Datenspeicherkarte verfügbar.

Ein zusätzlicher Filter sammelt den gesamten gemessenen Staub, wodurch später jederzeit eine entsprechenden Überprüfung oder Korrektur der Dichte möglich ist. Dieser entnehmbare 0 47mm PTFE Membranfilter ist ebenfalls die Basis für das gesetzlich vorgeschriebene Erfassen der Staubmasse und entspricht vielen nationalen und ISO-Standards.
