SPME reduces the time required for sample preparation and eliminates the use of large amounts of extraction solvents. Since no solvent is injected and the analytes are rapidly desorbed onto the column, minimum detection limits are improved and resolution is maintained. SPME is useful in many different analyses, including the characterization of environmental, forensic, food/flavor, and pharmaceutical compounds. The variable penetration depth into the sample vial allows for direct extraction of compounds in liquid samples or in the headspace region above liquid/solid samples. After thermal desorption of the compounds in the hot GC injector, the fiber can be fully cleaned in a dedicated heated and rinsed fiber conditioning station. Options.
