The SpectroMill Ball Pestle Impact Grinder/Mixer is a compact benchtop device used for mixing and pulverizing samples ranging from 2 to 30 cc. A combination of features provides the analyst with virtually unlimited options for processing countless sample types. Typical samples include geological rocks, minerals, dried soil and sand, cement, sinter, slags, ceramics, catalysts, glass, pharmaceutical products, dried plant and animal tissues, seeds and many other sample types that have fine particle size, uniform configuration, homogeneous distribution and require reproducible X-ray data. It is designed to quickly cause one or more ball plungers, along with a substance sample, to impact the internally contoured ends of a sealed SpectroVial container. The system's mechanics are designed to guide a ball plunger and sample on a "figure-of-eight" path within the grinding/mixing vessel before striking the contoured vessel and cap ends. The sample is crushed and "ground" by the ball pestle as the ball pestle is passed over the concave inner ends of the vessel to repeat the cycle at the opposite end. The crushing and mixing processes are controlled by the type of sample, quantity, time, hardness of the vessel and number of ball pestles. The SpectroMill-TS Touch Screen Ball Pestle Impact Grinder/Mixer includes a touch screen that provides the convenience and ability to operate and recall ready-to-use programmed methods. This function, unique to the SpectroMill-TS, eliminates the need to re-define grinding and mixing parameters for different sample types. The SpectroMill Ball Pestle Impact Grinders process up to five different samples simultaneously at the same pre-programmed time using a SpectroVial clamping device. This is achieved with optional Multi-SpectroVial adapters that have cavities of the appropriate size to accommodate Chemplex clear plastic polystyrene, tempered stainless steel, rust-resistant stainless steel and titanium carbide SpectroVial grinding/mixing vessels.
